We enjoyed walking through the cemetery and looking at the very old tombstones. The cemetery needs some tender loving care, but it is interesting. You can get a great view of town from it as well!
At the north end of town, it's definitely an interesting stop just to see the history of the town's cemetaries and some very interesting grave stones.
This cemetery needs some TLC but was still easy to navigate. Lots and lots of weeds everywhere but most of the pathways are clear enough to get around. It is so interesting because the graves are very different. It is divided into many sections. I like it because they have a section dedicated to firemen.
Loved the walk ... great views of Virginia City and surrounds. Did this first, before exploring the town. Free brochure guide at entry.
I was disappointed in the cemetery itself as tombstones didn't provide much info and were much more modern looking than I would have expected. But the best part is the wild mustangs that hang out there.
Sadly the cemetery is pretty neglected now. The stories provided on tours around the town provide some insight into what was there. Need them before visiting the cemetery.
A visit to Virginia City is not complete until you see the cemetery. So many very old gravesites. Full of lovely tributes. A lot of the graves are unmarked. I understand they are trying to fix that. I love old cemetaries, and this is one of the best. Be respectful, these people helped build the town that you visited today.... 更多
