Step inside to see how the upper crust lived In the late 1800's. This museum showcases a rich history of the past. The grounds will also host weddings, reunions, holiday parties.
It sure was interesting to see and then to find out it was built by William Randolph Hearst's father made it even more interesting. The guide was delightful and knowledgeable.

We visited this place as it was included in the package we purchased at the Visitor's Center. Our tour guide was a young man who is helping the current owner restore the building. A beautiful building in Virginia City. The architecture is really nice, though it probably could use a little updating. Worth a drive by to look if you;re in town.
John Mackay was one of the silver barons who ran Virginia City during its heyday. This mansion was once the headquarters of one of his silver mines, and also served as his home for a time being. The Mackay Mansion was very interesting to tour. It's in great condition with much of the original furniture, and even some original carpeting. The family's story was also fascinating....I never would have thought they were on the level of the Van der Bilts and Rockefellers. Definitely worth $5 per person.
