Heard about the place when we stopped at North Platte for the night. Glad we went for a visit in the morning. Both my wife and I were amazed about the size of the yard and the daily activities there. Very interesting history about the Orphan Trains and the canteen activities for troops passing through during World War II. It... 更多
We were short on time and could only pick one attraction, so glad we chose this one. We were given directions by a very friendly woman at the North Platte Visitors Center, as soon as we walked into the Golden Spike Visitors Center we were greeted by a very friendly girl, we were offered coffee and watched a short video... 更多
Lots of history here. Its as you know the largest railyard in the world. North Platte was instrumental in transporting service men in WW II and the community volunteered to provide free sandwiches and birthday cakes. I am working in Wayne NE and met one if the canteen volunteers. Really cool. The Golden Spike even provided a bit of history... 更多
North Platte was just a stop over for us on a Western trip. The Golden Spike Tower was a surprisingly interesting place. A lot about this unusual huge rail yard and information on local history. A helpful video fills you in on why this is an important railroad location. Nice gift shop. Great stop if you have kids.
when we stopped here my husband thought it would be boring, but he was the one that didn't want to leave. They have an enclosed or open observation deck that is accessible by elevator/stairs. there are chairs and tables available. bring your binoculars for a better view, they have viewers there, bring some change to use. the day we arrived... 更多

As it turned out, I learned more than he did (he already knew a good deal about rail transportation). Good viewing platform but even more important, good supporting print materials explaining what I was seeing. Super informative and worth the... 更多
This is a great place to visit for anyone. The elderly could use the nice elevator and benches both in the open air view as well as higher up in the enclosed viewing area with table and chairs. Very helpful staff with great inside info on the goings on with the trains. Plus a nice video to watch as well.... 更多
