Decided to stop here and take a break before settling in at my inn for the night. Glad I did. This is a world class museum even though outside apperience makes you wonder. The displays were well organized and informative.
During the summer of 2016 I drove to visit Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota, camping along the way. During this leisurely trip I wanted to visit some unusual places along the way. The Museum of Fur Trade was one of the stops I made. I enjoyed this museum! There was a nice collections of traps, art, guns, canoes, stuffed animals... 更多
You have to want to go to Chadron. Tucked into the far northwest region of Nebraska, lies the western town of Chadron, home to a small university which produced NFL star Danny Woodhead. But I came for another reason: The Museum of the Fur Trade. Situated about three miles west of Chadron on the only east-west road through town, Hwy.... 更多
The Museum of the Fur Trade is stunning: from the collection of period guns to dioramas and exhibits, props and costumes from The Revenant and some of the only and oldest surviving historical artifacts of their kind, history buffs will be enthralled by the breadth of this collection. The featured exhibit a gallery of Native American garments and textiles, was... 更多
Incredibly informative and very special to meet the founder's son & author James Hanson who volunteers there. GREAT DVD and WONDERFUL collections with some amazing displays on loan from Canada. The original buildings are well-preserved for your tour.
We stopped as we completed our visit to Chadron as the museum is only 5 miles East. We were impressed by the extensive collection of memorabilia not only of the white trappers/traders, but also of the native Americans with whom they bartered. Well displayed and with descriptions and explanations with each item in the exhibits. Entry fee quite reasonable and... 更多
We saw this museum when entering town. We checked into our motel and had time to spare, so went back to see it. It was more than what we expected. My husband loved all the old guns and I especially liked the Indian clothing, etc.
Who would have ever thought a fantastic museum would be in Chadron, NE? I found it by reading the caption of a photo in a book I was looking through. The Museum of the Fur Trade will show and teach you all you ever wanted to know about the American fur trade days across early America and even into Alaska.... 更多
Well researched, well organized, and jam-packed with interesting artifacts, this small museum in a remote Nebraska town is worth a detour! This museum gave us a new appreciation for importance of the fur trade in the history of our country and of Europe.
I visited the museum and was very surprised to see the amount of information it contained. Excellent collection of artifacts for that time period. If your interested in old guns, this collection will wow you. I would recommend you taking time to visit this museum.
