The Lee Metcalf near Stevensville, MT is not that large that you can see it all within an hour. Wildlife depends on the time of the year and is best at early mornings and dusk. The walk back to the Bitterroot River is nice.
We were also there about a week ago, and had a pleasant walk in the woods. We saw no wildlife at all. This looks like a nice flat place to walk your dogs.
It doesn't matter if you're a birder, hiker or just plain like a good walk in the woods - this is a perfect place for all three! Nice walking trails, with one right along the Bitterroot River. If you don't see everything on your walk, a stop at the visitors' center will give you a look at photos and stuffed animals.
Living just a few minutes away we are spoiled. A great place for several, easy, flat terrain walks through big pines and cottonwoods. Lots of wildlife, water fowl and breath taking views.
