The lake isn't exactly visible from the parking lot, but it is only a few steps to the shore. There is a trail all the way around the lake. 4th of July and leaving the area tomorrow and was looking for something to get out, but not difficult. What we have found out in this area: When you leave with not a cloud in the sky, it's a good bet that showers will be in the mountains. Take a raincoat. Lots of fishing by the locals.
I am somewhat impartial to this little lake. I was involved back in 1999 in building the trail around the lake (Much of it accessible to handicap people). I was in Red Lodge for a wedding but wanted to do some site-seeing as well. In the immediate area I explored Wild Bill Lake and the town. I would highly recommend traveling the Beartooth Pass!
Wild Bill Lake is a small man-made lake in a pretty setting. There were a few families with children that were fishing and they seemed to be having a great time. The walk around the lake was fairly easy.
Really lame and small, thought it would be better. We were told by a native that it would be amazing, but all there is is a couple picnic tables and a big pond.
We parked by the gate as the road is still closed. It was a perfect walk, a gradual grade on the road and one small climb to the lake. We are just getting back in shape and walked it easily. I am from So. Calif, and even though I live in Washington state, I had never seen a frozen lake!... 更多
