Enjoyed visiting this with my mother and sister-in-law. The ranger/guide was very knowledgeable on the history of the ranger station, and since we were the only ones there at the time, got a personal guided tour. Loved the old buildings which were in remarkable condition. Summer hours you can go inside the buildings, but during the off-season months the visitor... 更多
The visitor center was closed but they have a well done self guided tour. We were glad we drove out to see the center and the mules in residence. We also went further up the hill to see the old CCC site - also worth the drive.
The Remount Depot is an historic ranch where the Forest Service Mules are raised and stabled. They are mostly parade and show mules now, but they are wonderful to visits. The reception center has lots of free Forest Service goodies for the kids and offers tours of the ranch between Memorial Day and Labor Day. It is about 30 miles... 更多
I was staying in Missoula, and the drive out was lovely as we got out of the flat barren lands and into the trees. This property is lovely and well maintained. I enjoyed the small visitors center and the short walking tour, and of course some of the mules came up to the fence for attention. The history of the... 更多
We stopped in last week with our grandchildren. Tim, in the visitor center, gave us an excellent background and history of the center and pack mules. With a stroke luck, Smoke Elsner was teaching a class on packing mules and horses to a group of summer interns. He is well known in the west. Kids loved it!
This is a good place to take the family on a Sunday drive. Just a few miles west of Missoula you can learn about this important and historic ranger post and see the herd of mules they still use.
We spent several hours here. This is a working Forest Service Ranger Station not just a visitor center. You will learn about pack animals, firefighting and more. Kids will love this place. They get to see horses, mules and fire fighting equipment. The grounds are beautiful and you can hang out after the tour.
Interesting site. The interpretation presentation is not very detailed and the tour of the area is limited. A couple of the shops, like the saddle shop and the barn areas are quickly viewed. The background is interesting but the interpretation people need to develop more of a detailed explanation. We volunteer at a national site and fully develop our area.... 更多
As a life long horsewoman, this is one of my favorite places of all! Gorgeous area, friendly people and terrific ambience along with beautiful horses, it's heavenly to me!
While out looking for destination start/stop points for our rzr riding groups we came upon a very nice find, a actual working Historical Forest Service Ranch. This place has a visitor center and numerous out buildings along with signs explaining the proceeders and events that make up this place. Very informative and a blast for families with kids that love... 更多
