I'd consider this a "must see" for anyone new to Kansas City. The museum is the creation of local adventurers who researched, located, and disinterred the preserved wares of a steamboat sunk along the Missouri River in the 1850's. Visitors first see a brief film that details the project from its beginnings to its ongoing preservation and research efforts, in... 更多
For those of us that did not know about how river boats were used and even those who do you get to see not only what the boats hauled (you get to see actual freight this boat was hauling) to how the boats were run. Go, you will enjoy it. Spotty
What an amazing story! Passionate amateurs turned into professional salvagers who opened this museum to houses the most amazing time capsule of riverboat life and times. This is a wonderful place to visit and discover the fascinating story of determination and history coming to light. Easily worth several hours of your time browsing the innumerable artefacts; smelling 150 year old... 更多
Visited with family because someone saw the sign from the City Market and thought it would be fun. I had no expectations, but was astounded at how great this place was. The number of items on display is staggering, and the staff seem to know something about almost everything in there. Highly recommended.
One of my favorite places in Kansas City, it's like a time capsule from the mid-1800's with a fascinating story. My students and their parents all loved it!
I enjoyed walking around the museum. Did not pay for the tour as $14.50/person is too much for 1 1/2 hour tour.
Thanks for the review. We are sorry to hear that the cost prohibited you from enjoying the museum. 更多
A nice museum, which begins with a brief lecture to explain the backstory of this steamboat and how it came that it the Arabia was unearthed and put on display for us to see. When you arrive and pay your admission, you'll wait for the next tour, which was every half hour, I believe. The first part of the tour... 更多
A real life story of treasure hunters. An historic look at life in the 1850s. More then worth the price of admission. A tour guide introduced us to the museum, showed us a short movie and guided us through a leisurely tour of products of the 1850s and how they were discovered and recovered. He was there to answer questions... 更多
The museum itself was full of interesting things and the tour guides downstairs were very helpful and willing to answer any questions. The office staff, however, was less than welcoming. Just rude, in fact. Unfortunately, their attitudes soured the entire experience for us.
Thank you for the review. We are glad you enjoyed your tour and sorry to hear that the office (or... 更多
This was such an interesting museum - from the introduction film about the history of the Arabia and how it sunk - to how they located it and retrieved the unbelievable amount of treasures from the mud and mire of over 100 years! I was so impressed how they took on and planned this adventure, researched and learned all they... 更多
We had not planned on going here but went on a whim. The history of the steamboat and how it was rediscovered were remarkable. The collection of artifacts recovered from the vessel is truly amazing and gives insight into the lives of people in the 1850's.
One can understand how people lived in old times by checking what was discovered in this sunk boat. It was a pleasure to meet personally the wife of one of the men who discovered the boat. A nice place to go.
If you enjoy history and antiques, you will love this museum. My husband is not much on museums and he loved it. He told me that I would have a "hard time topping that one" the rest of the weekend. He was right. Everything else we did after Arabia paled in comparison (well, except the restaurants). Don't miss this museum... 更多
