We found it very informative to see how Dr. Grenfell lived in St. Anthony. The rooms were interesting and you had a sense of how living up on the hill gave Grenfell and his family a marvellous view out over the city. Considering all his hard work and contributions to the betterment of lives led by the locals in Newfoundland... 更多
The introductory film gives an interesting portrait of Dr. Grenfell and his mission. The museum has many displays showing the work of Dr. Grenfell, his wife and his colleagues. It is an interesting part of Canadian history that I new nothing about until visiting this museum.
This interpretive centre gives excellent insights into the development of healthcare/public health in the province. Many of the photos and recordings are extremely touching, and the whole experience is quite inspirational. The attached gift shop has some fabulous carvings for sale, as well as quality prints and hooked hangings.
We started here by watching a video about Dr Grenfell. He was by all accounts a very giving man who went above and beyond for the people of Labrador. After the video we toured the museum. There were a lot of photos and some interesting medical equipment from the early 1900's. It was interesting to learn about transportation in the... 更多
This museum offers a terrific history of the local area and the man most essential to building it. I had very little idea about Dr Grenfell before arriving in the area and I'm really pleased to have learned more. The museum is set up very effectively, from the introductory movie to the layout of the exhibits. What the Grenfells accomplished... 更多
I had not heard of Wilfred Grenfell before but our B and B host told us a bit of his story and suggested that we stop by the museum. I am so glad that I did. It was quite fascinating and the museum is very well laid out. The information gave me a better understanding of the Newfoundland people and... 更多
The museum may be small, relatively speaking, but it offers an exceptionally good visual narrative of Dr. Grenfell's life and exploits. It's not to be missed if one wishes to know more about the early history of Newfoundland.
The exhibits are informative, and the video was excellent. It really transfers you back into time, and makes you appreciate the challenges of the day.
The house located on Maraval Road was built by Dr. and Mrs. Grenfell in 1909 and holds many original furnishings and artifacts. Not much has been changed since it was built which makes it unusually and wonderfully authentic. A set of scrapbooks kept by several individuals who volunteered at the Mission during the early 1900’s provided fascinating glimpses into historical... 更多
