This museum is one of Jackson's hidden jems! It is s little difficult to find, they lock the door during business hours, and it is cash only. However, once you do find it and make it inside, you will not be disappointed! There is so much to see and learn! The exhibits are very well put together.
The museum has an interesting collection of Mississippi history. The civil rights area is an important part of the history being depicted.
This is a small museum dedicated to the African American culture in Mississippi and in Jackson, MS in particular. The exhibits are well presented and the small staff is friendly. The subject matter can be disturbing to small children and sensitive adults but most of it is well presented. The museum is located in a restored school building very close... 更多
As I walked through Farish Street which is a little scary because it is abandoned and most if not all of the businesses are boarded up..But the dangerous walk was well worth it..I learned alot here about African American History..This little building used to be the first school for African American children when there was still segregation in Jackson..It was... 更多
I learned so much in my self-guided tour of this Museum! It would take days to look at and read everything they have added to the museum! I would highly recommend that families, school, and family reunions make this part of their stop while visiting Jackson, Mississippi.
When you hear wonderful things about a place, you just have to visit. Before my visit to Jackson, I had read and heard only positive feedback about the Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Center. The Museum is a wonderful highlight of Black History and it is located in the beautifully renovated Smith Robertson School. It was the first school for... 更多
This is an excellent place to learn so many facts of what took place which was not that long ago. Mississippi has "so much" history here, some of it is good, and some isn't. I would encourage any parent regardless of race to pay a visit there with their kids to educate them of important history facts that occurred in... 更多
My family and I spent the afternoon at this wonderful museum and cultural center during our family reunion outing. The narrator was knowledgeable and she took her time in answering questions. The building, art, and exhibits were absolutely astonishing and educational. This is a must see for Jackson. I only regret is not obtaining a book or recorded DVD of... 更多
It has so much history of the City of Jackson. Family members attended it when it was a school. I saw one of my brothers on one of the pictures.
I was impressed by the variety of content and amazed at the stories the exhibits told. It was very quiet when we went which made it very emotional. They deserve to be packed every day.
