The Root River area around Lanesboro is always a nice getaway, especially during mid-week. It is low-key... especially if you've been there before. There are no "Must Sees" or "Must Dos". The waterfall is beautiful, but I really want to comment on the town itself. Lanesboro has the picturesqueness that I thought we would see all over Minnesota. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. We didn't do the tubes or kayaking, but have to say this has to be one of the most beautiful paved bikeways anywhere. Serious cyclists can ride 60 miles or more on dedicated trails that were former railways. Most run along the river. We rented bikes at the General Store for a ridiculously cheap afternoon. Wonderful!
A perfect easy does it bike trail with half or more being shaded. Great for any age. Heading out of Lanesboro we went to Whalen & back that was fairly flat and also went the other way to the Barn Campground and back, also fairly easy trail.
Have never been tubing before, so for my first time it was a little scary. I think the workers should be down at the place where you get on your tube, to kind of guide you on how to get on the tube, etc... but it was fun.
