Great place to camp out prior to entering the BWCAW. Rustic campsites (no electricity, outhouse nearby, fire pit and table) are scattered all over the forest. The Forest is beautiful and has many different kinds of trees and plants. There stunning views from atop any of the mountains. There are camping sites and hiking trails.
I have made a point of coming up in Sept. or Oct. to hike portions of the trail. Nearly covered the whole thing. Hike out of the state parks. You will have them to yourselves that time of the year.
It was a relaxing and beautiful place to hike and be one with nature. The views of a Lake Superior are breathtaking that go on for miles!!! You don't realize how huge the lake is until you are there!! Beautiful flowing rivers, trails and waterfalls!!!
