We first stopped at the Soo to see the massive ships up close. We have been hooked ever since. We make an annual late summer trip. Ships can be viewed close enough to see and talk with member of the crew. There is a visitor center with interesting and informative displays and vidio presentations. Informed volunteers willing to answer questions... 更多
The Soo Locks was a very interesting experience if you love ships and life on the open water, which I do. When the ship we were watching was finished loading, and it was time to open the lock, the ship sounded it's horn, and it about blew my eardrums out of my head. Should have plugged them with my fingers.
get the pass through time before going if you want to watch the freighters go through. viewing stand are covered. Great lakes museum in the area. good chow to go or sit down style. LSSU is a small university located just west about 3-4 miles it too was once a fort.
What a treat! While there we saw a tour boat, coast guard boat, and later a huge barge go through the locks. They have an awesome viewing deck and IMO, there's no need to pay to go on the tour boat. You can hear what they are saying while on the viewing deck. Played putt putt across the street and... 更多
If you are a boat nerd, you will love the Soo Locks. Sault Ste. Marie is the place to go to see Great Lakes Shipping. I can look out from the observation decks for hours (though my wife may not agree). Go!
This destination is in the heart of the Soo's downtown and is a must visit. Within the Visitor's Center, there is a lot of interesting facts, working display of the Locks and a great photo opportunity to be Captain! Within the Locks Park, there are walking trails and an observation deck to give you a great vantage point for these... 更多
We have been to the Locks a few times, but this time we checked the schedule in advance to know best time to catch ships. The viewing area is large and can accommodate many people. It has ramps to accommodate those who could not do stairs, and the ramps are not too steep. Appreciated the history signs to understand what... 更多
Learned a lot while reading information about the locks while viewing the area! This was well-worth driving the additional miles on our trip.
The thing that struck me is that we were not only viewing a modern creation of lake travel, we were viewing an historic contribution that started hundreds of years ago and will continue with improvements and expansion. Crossing the bridge to Canada is a treat that should be experienced. Sault Ste. Marie, MI and Canada is more than a bridge... 更多
