All along the Aveyron River are a number of castles built to defend the river. Some were built by the English. Some are open to the public, others in private hand and all in various stages of restoration or dilapidation. None is more impressive or magnificent than Najac. This is a good little walk from the town center with commanding view of the river valley below. The fort is well preserved and worth seeing if you are in the area.

Definitely worth the walk up there as the views are amazing. Really good value for money to walk around the castle. The free visitor guide is very helpful. It is not a very busy place so you get to see without waiting. If you visit on a Sunday you also can have a little look around the local market.
We came here with some friends and as part of our group we had two young children. The castle is fantastic with good views of the whole area. We would come back again. Only down side is it was hard work with young kids as lots of stairs and small spaces.
