We just completed this hike and there were pros and cons to the whole experience. We decided to do an ultralight hiking trip and chose grand island for its size and location. We were a group of six with moderate experience in ultralight back packing. To start the island is only accessible via boat or kayak, we took the ferry... 更多
My friend and I were looking for a place to ride bikes and the hotel recommended Grand Island. Unfortunately we got a late start and only had from 5-6pm to ride. The little we were able to see was great. The trail was perfect for riding and the scenery amazing. Aside from the few other riders who were clueless to... 更多
Bottom line my absolute favorite place to explore in Michigan. Every season you'll find beauty. Come and hike, bike, kayak, or even skijor to the ice caves. Ferry runs May-October and once the ice makes you can cross on skis, snowshoes or snowmobile.
The island is amazing, but to get a real perspective, take a boat ride around the island as it provides for some amazing fees and pics that you can't get from the island. Whether you walk, hike, or ride the island, it is a great experience.
We had a 3 hour tour of the island. The guide was fairly knowledgeable. Mosquitoes were present but manageable. The price was reasonable at $15/pp for the ferry ride and $15/pp for the tour. Don't forget to get your senior discount with the Parks Department card. Tour was a little too long... LOTS of hiking and biking trails.
Myself, my husband and our 10 y/o son biked Grand Island on Aug. 11th and loved it. There were no bugs at all and the weather was overcast and 65. The ferry across is a pontoon boat that can carry 7 people and bikes. It takes maybe 3 minutes to cross. He's very quick and efficient. There are a lot... 更多
My sister (52) and I (48) decided on a whim to rent some bikes and tour the island on our own. We are not big exercisers but are generally healthy. We took a backpack with water bottles and snacks and decided to take a 7-mile loop around the southern end of the island. The packed-sand trails are well marked with... 更多
This is a primative island!!!!! There are several restrooms and water spigots but they are spaced out. There are no consessions on the island. I don't drink water...never have and never will. When I boarded the ferry with my two liter bottle of diet dew people laughed...later in the day they wanted to be my friend. The water is safe to... 更多
A friend and I went and camped on grand island and followed the advice of Desi the nice lady in the shack and our trip was smooth sailing and amazing. She told us where we would have the best time finding a campsite so late in the day, and that we should stick to the east side on our hike... 更多
