The old citadel of Khiva has been both well preserved and partly reconstructed. There are wonderful city walls as they would have originally appeared. The streets inside have been well maintained with most historical points of interest on the main north-south and east-west roads. The rest is full of a maze of old buildings where approximately 4000 people still live.... 更多
Khiva Old City is a wonderful place to explore, fairly compact with much of historical interest. The ancient citadel is full of exquisite ancient Islamic architecture with mosques, madrassas, tombs and temples. Having an English (or French, German etc as applicable) is an absolute must to get the best out of the visit. A must see, enjoy.
Climb the walls and walk on top of them. There is only one point from where you can do that near one of the gates and pay a small amout of money. But the views are fantastic. Be very careful on the stairs and on the platforms as there are no parapets.
Not sure why this isnt number 1.. as this is a great Citadel in pristine condition! Make sure you spend a few hours to wander around the streets and do this at both night and day as you get 2 very difference experiences. I found when I was there I felt like I had the place to myself as there... 更多
It is impossible to describe the beautiful tiling of the palace, or the exquisite workmanship of the wooden entrance doors and wooden columns. Take a look at the accompanying photos for a taster. Within the reception area is the Khagan's silver covered throne. Apart from the steps up to the reception room, this part of the Kunya-ark is easily accessible.... 更多
The Ark complex is worth the visit. The view was beautiful (but even better is from the Islom Hodja minaret). It's better visit earlier in the morning so less tourists are there.
