It's sometimes surprising how the legacy of a big, robust industry like mining can almost vanish overnight. This group of enthusiastic volunteers has tackled the daunting task of preserving the rich (but endangered) iron mining heritage of the Marquette Range on one of the most iconic sites imaginable. The tour itself does NOT go underground in actual mine workings, but... 更多
This was informative and personalized tour. Friendly retired miners giving tour. Great artifacts. Huge space. The guy was candid, glib, excited to share history and his story of local mining. Well worth the cost of admission.
This place is a little gem. We've been on mine tours before, but our guide was a retired miner and a wonderful storyteller. He gave the tour a personal touch, and so much information. The museum section is fairly small but attached is a great room with a display of rocks and minerals. Don't miss the dark room to watch... 更多
A very interesting tour of a working shaft mine (but not of the working mining). The mine itself, and the shafts, were closed some years ago. The museum tour was very interesting and also very educational. The guide was very knowledgeable, and kept us all fascinated. The "Egyptian Obelisks" that you will see against the skyline are facades built at... 更多
I greatly enjoyed our tour of the Cliff Mine Museum. The tour lasted about an hour and their is a substantial mining museum and mineral display to add interest. We started on the tour at 2:15 and we're still looking when they closed at 4pm. We had a two year old and a five year old with us and they... 更多
Visited the museum with our two teen children and it was terrific. The folks who run the museum were very pleasant and had some great information to share. We even bought a chunk of Michigan Greenstone from a fellow who has a little business behind the museum
This volunteer-driven museum allows visitors to have an extensive look at the underground mining process, including a walk down the tunnel and on to the base of the large obelisk which housed the system to get the men down below. Other displays are very well done, and in addition, the Rock and Mineral Club has a large room with impressive... 更多
We stopped here on our return trip from Mackinaw Island. A retired mine worker named Bill, gave us the one hour tour. It was so interesting, we could have easily spent another hour. It was very interesting to hear the mining story from a person who did this type of work all of his life. This mine was established in... 更多
