The catwalk is a unique feature of the pier. Before automation the lighthouse keeper used the upper walkway (catwalk) to access the lighthouse in stormy weather. This is a beautiful place, but obviously old and in need of the repairs that are coming within the next year. To me, the age is part of the charm, but there are places that really aren't safe for children or older people to walk on the pier.
There is nothing better than walking out on the pier, watching the boats and fishers! Sunset from the end of the pier is gorgeous! Coastguard Festival is the best!

One of the nicest pier, light those and harbor walks in Michigan. Especially beautiful sunsets over the pier and lake. Always seems to be some activity going on, great place to vacation
