There is a lifeboat to tour before heading to the old boat house to view surf boats and a Breeches buoy set up. The old station has been turned into a small museum which has both historical information and exhibits. The exhibits include a Fresnel lens. It does not take long to tour.
We LOVE this place because of the beach. It's a quiet long stretch of beach that makes you feel you are somewhere tropical....not Michigan. The water is SO blue. It's a must see. We always stop by the museum too. Looking for to taking our 5 year old soon.
Very interesting museum with a very knowledgeable volunteer on hand to explain the various items on display in the boat house. The station house had several informative interactive displays. Well worth a visit.
The Maritime Museum is worth a stop if you enjoy maritime history. There are a few Coast Guard rescue vessels on display. And the main house has neat exhibits with a video showing a Coast Guard rescue drill. Views of Lake Michigan from the porch are amazing, too!
So glad we stopped here, this a really neat place and we really enjoyed learning about the rescues. Rick, the volunteer, was very friendly and answered all of our questions. It was a joy to talk with him. This place is definitely worth a stop, loved it!
Interesting to learn about the maritime rescues. The reenactment for kids is a MUST DO. They really loved it and it was really infomative for the adults too. And the kids loved seeing the cannon fire. They even got to help pull the rope back in from the lake. A very well run operation and worth the stop.
Loved the storytelling here by the wonderful volunteers. It is clear these people love their "job." And we appreciate all the knowledge of the history here. Loved the demonstrations too. Especially of how they used to rescue from shipwrecks and the blacksmith shop demos. There are restrooms here as well as a small gift shop. The bike trail runs right... 更多
Be sure to stop by the Museum during visitor hours to enjoy an informative demonstration about life-saving techniques. You stand facing Sleeping Bear Bay, imagining the wind, waves and cold of late fall weather. It is fascinating and creatively presented.
