The Clark Art Institute is best known for its French Impressionist paintings by Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, and especially Pierre-Auguste Renoir, with more than thirty paintings by the artist. The collection is also rich in American paintings by Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, George Inness, Frederic Remington, and Mary Cassatt; Italian and Northern Renaissance masterpieces; portraits and landscapes by European masters; and an extraordinary collection of silver, porcelain, and furniture. An active program of special exhibitions brings great works of art from around the world to the museum.

Designed by renowned Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando, the recently opened Clark Center is the centerpiece of the Clark's campus. The center includes special exhibition galleries as well as retail and dining spaces. It overlooks a dramatic three-tiered reflecting pool, integrating indoor and outdoor spaces and creating a stunning visual connection to the woodland surroundings and other buildings located on the campus. This sweeping new landscape design transforms the Clark's 140-acre campus and underscores new sustainability initiatives.

In 1950 the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute was founded as a permanent home for the private art collection of Sterling and Francine Clark. In 1955 Sterling-who was an avid horseman with strong family ties to Williamstown and Cooperstown, New York-and his wife Francine presided at the official opening of the museum, sharing their magnificent yet little-known collection with the world for the first time. Since the founding, the museum has gained international stature for the quality of its collection, innovative special exhibitions, and Research and Academic Program.

The recent renovations to this building have made it more airy and light and a work of art in itself. The permanent collection is a good one, but the special exhibits are eye-popping. Ample parking on a landscaped plot, with golf carts to carry visitors to the main building. Commendations to the staff for courtesy and helpfulness.

As you enter the courtyard with its beautiful serenity pool with stones covering the bottom you can gaze at a stone covered wall that seems to be lite from inside. The architecture of the new section is superb. Right now the Prado exhibit is worth the trip to see. Yet year round the art collection in the old section is... 更多

The architecture and the setting in beautiful grounds alone could make this an amazing place to visit. Added to this are the high quality temporary exhibitions and the great range of paintings, sculptures and artefacts in the permanent collection and in fact what more could you ask for. I particularly loved the collection of Pissaro's paintings but there is something... 更多

The museum is far more than just Renoirs, but the Collection does have a very large amount of Renoirs. I thoroughly enjoyed the main Collection. The ‘nude’ exhibition was interesting. I’m not sure that there is a need for the audio program as the ‘writeup’ next to the artwork was enough for me, but that’s a personal decision. You can... 更多

The permanent exhibit at the Clark is astonishing. It focuses on Renoir, Impressionists, Homer, Sargeant. The building is magnificent for viewing the art. The grounds are stunning, bucolic. The visiting exhibits would be phenomenal in any museum. The curators are top notch. It's nothing short of an extraordinary museum.

Mr. and Mrs. Clark had a fine eye when they started buying art in Paris a hundred years ago. It helped that he was heir to the Singer Sewing Machine fortune. My favorites were Renoirs, not usually the case. Their first by this artist is wonderful, a woman knitting. The whole collection is amazing and housed in low modern buildings... 更多

The Clark is one of the local places of interest where I bring my visitors. It is a beautiful setting with pleasant grounds and the building itself is beautiful too. The museum has a nice collection of paintings for its exhibits, including quite a number of impressionists. Also a nice gift shop with good Christmas present options.

We were pleasantly surprised to come upon this museum. There were works of art by French impressionists, Old Master and American artists. The Nudes from the Prado museum were there. And the venue itself is not only beautiful but also calming. After enjoying the works of art, we sat and gazed at the beautiful landscape. Don't miss this when you... 更多

We hadn’t had a chance to visit the Clark since the remodel a couple years ago and were quite impressed with the new buildings and exhibition space. All of the same artworks are there, although the new entrance means that you see them in a different order, which can be surprising. It was also really nice to see the new... 更多

we particularly enjoyed the special exhibit; Nudes from the Prado in Madrid. Their permanent collection is excellent also. It was set up well but signs, like in the Met in NY, would be great so people could find their way more easily.
