I have written about the High Ledges before, but it is one of my favorite spots in Western Mass. Apart from the trails and the spectacular view, it is usually never filled with other people. If you go during the week, you might not come across anyone. I try to visit at least once a month.
A lovely hike. Not hard, but so beautiful. Audubon acquired Dutch Barnard's retreat in the woods, perched on a rock overlook, in 1970...he proposed to his wife there. It is inspiring. You will see why. Lady Slippers in spring, leaves on fire in autumn. A bird's eye view of a magical spot.
Followed the signs to High Ledges and stayed on the main hiking path. A very pleasant walk on a late morning which only took about 15 minutes to reach the top. Took in the beautiful views while sitting on the stone ledge. Not a cloud in the sky on this day. There are other paths as well. Worth the trip!
The view at the top is AMAZING! You can see for miles and miles. It is truly breathtaking! The walk out is easy with some steeper parts but good for all ages. There were a ton of bugs and many horse flies, I wish we had brought bug spray but we didn't, but we now know for the next time!
The trip up to parking area is dramatic enough, and the walk itself is nicely varied without being too strenuous. I've never seen it all, in several trips, so it's worth repeated visits.

The trails are all well marked and labeled, they go by wetlands, ledges, and through woods. It was slightly soggy, but had rained hard that morning. I enjoyed... 更多
My partner and I visited High Ledges in October 2015. We're 50-something outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy seeking out unique places to hike. We visited High Ledges on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the height of "Indian Summer". We find that usually nature preserve are not heavily traveled and so make for a more quiet and enjoyable experience than state parks.... 更多
The hike in is just short of 1 mile. It is an easy hike. The view from the rock ledge at the end of the mile is breathtaking, more than worth the effort. There is a network of addition trails in this sanctuary. Some of the other trails are more rigorous.
The Wildlife Sanctuary has some easy hiking trails. Make sure to watch the markers though as we managed to veer off the trail and ended up in the mud. Managed to spot some pink and yellow lady slippers.
