Nice peaceful beach! Just a nice place to relax! Went there with 2 other friends; played in the water, then decided not to do anything but people watch.
If you know anything about Martha's Vineyard's black history, then you've likely heard of the Inkwell or maybe you've seen the movie starring Larenz Tate. I was so excited to head over to the Inkwell, but disappointed that the beach is super small and rocky. I am a beach person, not a "be seen" person. When I go to the beach I expect sand, not rocks. My next visit to Martha's Vineyard will see me on the other side of the island, not the Inkwell.
Inkwell Beach in Oak Bluffs was so named because the African American population of the island would swim there. It is a wide expanse of beach, clean, we were there during May so I am not sure if there are lifeguards during the season. Nice place to sit and enjoy the water
No one should be allowed to come to the Vineyard without a manditory dip in Inkwell's waters. This is not just a beach - it is a wonderful part of Black history on the isalnd. Inkwell Beach is very popular with families and day-trippers. Definitely beautiful, and no rough surf. Close to the center of town - within walking distance.
