Our family was very moved by this memorial. Our nephew is one of the fallen firefighters listed there. We first missed the entrance because the sign for the memorial is very small, as other reviewers have stated it is located on the National Fire Academy. So you do have to go through security it is worth doing. There are plaques... 更多
This memorial is in two parts, the actual memorial, and a statue. It is an easy walk, and easy to read information. Plan on 1/2 hour to tour this site. More is planned in the future.
While in Emmitsburg at the Fire Museum we decided to stop here. You have to get let in. You just can't drive in. There is a lot of security. A guard takes your license and gives you a temporary pass to go in and view the monument. It's quite impressive. On the way out you get your license back.
First of all, I'm glad I read the other reviews before we came, because it was somewhat intimidating to talk to the guard at the entrance and having to leave our IDs and putting a pass on our windshield. The US Government (FEMA) now manages the property, and, in my humble opinion,... 更多
As a firefighter, it was necessary to visit the fallen firefighters memorial. The memorial is classy, well maintained and emotional. The campus is peaceful and that adds to the emotion/ respect due to all the brothers who gave their lives in the line of duty.
I stumbled upon this gem on my way to MD to visit a friend. Much to my surprise, I followed one of those brown visitor's signs off the highway, but ended up driving right past. Went online to find out it is located on I believe some type of FEMA site that has restricted access. Once I located it, spoke... 更多
A significant memorial to our fallen heroes. It's nice to remember those in service who make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty protecting the public they serve.
A beautiful place to pay one's respects to the men and women who have given their lives to protect their communities and fellow citizens. My husband is a (40+ year) retired professional firefighter. We weren't prepared for the emotions we experienced, or the deep gratitude and pride both experienced. We live on the West Coast, but were in Virginia this... 更多
