Was here with the PSO for a quick trip. Visitor Center is wonderful. We did a driving loop. Lots of waterfowl. Walked for Brown-headed Nuthatches and Pine Warblers. Wonderful time!
Avoiding I-95 to return to VA from DC, we decided to take US50 thru Maryland. Beautiful drive. The NWR was a slight detour but well worth it. It's only a small one-way 3 mile loop but full of eagles, great heron, geese, migratory water fowl and birds, etc. We even spied an endangered Delmarva Fox Squirrel. My wife and I recently had the pleasure of spending 3 hours leisurely walking/driving on the loop road of the Blackwater Wild life refuge. There were the usual shore and water birds to be seen on the mud flats and in the waters of the refuge but the high point of the day for us was spotting on seven different... 更多

Eagles, osprey, racoons, foxes, muskrat, ducks of many types, plus all the flora make for an adventure in nature you will certainly appreciate. The folks who run things (paid and volunteer)... 更多

The refuge is in the heart of it and I recommend to combining the two if time permits. The visitors center is a very thorough exhibit of the local eco system, history and pictures. It also... 更多
We took the drive along the water and through the marshes on a winter day. The number of birds was not overwhelming but we did manage to see one eagle and some swans, which we hadn't seen in Maryland since my wife and I were kids living on the western shore of the bay. Of course, there were plenty of... 更多
