I went with specific shops in mind, but then I got sidetracked. There is so much going on in the area. it's a really fun place. We were there the day after Christmas.
My husband and I enjoyed driving route 1. It was peaceful and made for easy stopping. You need extra time to take this route, but it is worth it.
Drove from Freeport to Bar Harbor. Lots of small towns and villages and some with lots of activity for a Sunday afternoon. Everything seems to happen in the downtown area of these communities. Wish we had more time to explore more of the towns. Beautiful scenery.
Beautiful coastal drive through some lovely communities. If you love New England architecture and you have the time to stop for local crafts, antiques and pottery then this drive is for you.
So much more to see than the interstate. Highway is in good maintenance. Two-lane non-divided highway. Great views along the way including lighthouse (Pemaquid Point) visits and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge as well as bays and rivers along with colorful river towns. Great drive.
There is so much to see and to do in this area. The Wild Bird Store is amazing. Lots of clothes and shoes stores to check out. Lots of eateries to eat at. Be prepared to be overwhelmed!
So much to see and do on this rte. Shopping is fun. The scenery is nice. Lots of different shops. LL Bean has great hours and shopping.
No trip to Maine would be complete without a stop at L.L.Bean. We always seem to get there around 2 p.m. and spend three to four hours there.
