If you are on your way to Fort Larned, it's a nice side stop to better understand part of the Santa Fe Trail history. The natural rock outcropping (which used to be much taller) was a guide post for pioneer travelers.
We loved the history at this location. We wouldn't drive hours to get here, but if in the area a must see. Just imagine standing in that same spot years ago and watch the wagon trains and Indians. Wow!
I grew up around this area and used to love going up to the rock and watching the sun set. Such a beautiful view. I even thought about getting married here. My dad used to tell me stories about the indian's, how they used this area as a look out. You can see for miles on this hill. I always...
Interesting to stand on the rock and look out over the land the early settlers crossed as they headed west. When you see cars and trucks zipping along the improved roads, you realize how far we've come in 150 years.
I originally expected a larger rock outcropping but once you get to the top and overlook the area, it was impressive. they have interesting signs and old photographs of what it looked like and information about the Santa Fe trail. well worth a 20 minute stop
