Just like the Santa Fe trail tracks and cattle overlook, this is only interesting to history lovers and then only long enough to get the gist and say you've been there. The officers quarters and enlisted barracks are still there...original buildings. However, this place has few markers/signs to read and nothing of real interest. You can't even go inside any... 更多
I liked the old buildings from the fort since I enjoy history. As military veterans, we enjoyed seeing that the State of Kansas is housing military veterans.
From the moment we pulled off the highway this small forgotten place was depressing. Forgotten and run down it is hard to imagine the State of Kansas has a VA facility here. We saw one living soul as we walked around the deserted town for over an hour. It was sad and a bit creepy.

I was most impressed that Kansas honors its veterans by supplying housing on the base (about 60 individual homes) at a very reduced rent rate. There is also a VA hospital on the premises. Every state should have several of these compleses to honor our American soldiers.
We were able to see this only via tour bus. We did not return to walk around or go to general store or museum. Looks very clean and well kept from bus view.

We actually found Ft. Dodge when we were looking for another attraction. We just drove through to look at the old buildings and markers but it was really cool to see the area where the soldiers would have set up to protect the wagon trains and traders.
Went out here with very few expectations. The lady in the cafe was very helpful and gave us lots of information. You need to walk around to get the full benefit and follow the guide, also talk to the locals.
