Great look at Africa from the view point of OSA and Martin Johnson. Grandkids love the animal and tribesmen displays. Very well done. Unusual items in gift shop. Well worth the trip.
Safari Museum shares a building with the library in Chanute, KS. it is a little off the beaten track but the road is excellent. Used highway US 54 all the way from Tucumcari, AZ...good road and interesting places along the way. The museum is full of African collections and then there is a section devoted to the Johnson's and the... 更多
Read it, then go to the musuem. Fascinating story of pioneer wildlife and indigenous peoples' photographers. Museum is Mecca to people who loved these adventurous travelers. This couple made multiple movies that were popular in the first half of the 20th century and that are fascinating to see today. The enthusiasm of the museum director was infectious, too.
Who knew that Kansas folks were so adventurous? This museum chronicles the Johnson's lives and travels. The collections are also interesting and give a first hand view of a land far away. Worth the time and small fee.
What it was like for Martin and Osa to travel to Africa and everywhere where they went around the world. If you are in the area, definitely stop by and check out all the artifacts. There are many neat things to see. In one of the staircases, there are 3 15+ feet tall masks worn. If you like other cultures... 更多

Outside, from the street, you are greeted by 2 tall, life-size sleek metal statues of giraffes. We did not think we would get to see this since they are normally closed on Mondays, but we... 更多
I first went to the Martin & Osa Johnson Safari Museum on a kindergarten class trip, in the original Grant Street location. The old building had an amazing amount of charm, including a fountain that you could drop coins into from an upper story. The old building stands abandoned, with the museum sign still on display. The museum has since... 更多
Romance and early exploration of exotic far-away places, as well as small town people experiencing the wonders of the world during the first half of the 20th Century are the kinds of sentiments this museum feeds and banks on. It’s a nice glimpse into the world and accomplishments of Martin and Osa Johnson. Martin, from Illinois, and Osa, from Chanute,... 更多
It has been awhile since we visited the Martin & Osa Johnson Safari Museum, however, it has been moved to the Chanute Library and appears to be a much better building than previously. The displays are true to life and the museum personnel give you stories about Martin/Osa Johnson's lives. Plus there are descriptions of them through out the projects... 更多
