It was pretty cool to see the trout, from fingerlings to breeders. There are fish food dispensers that give a generous amount for 25 cents. Feed the big breeders, not the fingerlings, so that they'll come to the surface. They're huge! Lovely streams and there were several people fishing. I would recommend, though, that a trail map be added to... 更多
Beautiful location surrounded by bluffs and a natural spring. This is a great place to take the kids, feed the trout and have a picnic. While there be sure to check out the eagle's nests. And if you enjoy fishing, this is the beginning of one of northeast Iowa' s most popular trout fishing streams. Lots of handicap accessible spots.
Great place to see the breeding stock and what is available to be releasedinto the wil and ponds. They have feeders on site for feeding the fish and there is an amazing stream that emerges from underground caves. Kinda cool
We originally went to see the Decorah eagles. The eagles nests are across the road from the hatchery - it's an all you can eat buffet for the eagles. They have food dispensers, where for 25 cents you can get some pellets to feed the fish.
The hatchery was interesting and provided a lot of information on the types of fish they breed and how the hatchery helps the environment. I noticed a lot of families were eating picnic lunches at the nearby pavilion and feeding the fish seemed to be a big hit with the kids. This is probably not something I would visit over... 更多
Just a few quarters and you can have a pretty cheap date. You walk around and look at the fish and you can feed them if you want but you don't have to. You see the various sizes of how they grow. Very entertaining to watch them eat/splash around but also educational as well.
Take time to feed the fish here. Throw in and a handful and watch the feeding frenzy. From the tiny fish to those that are ready for the streams they are fun to watch and observe. If you are a fisherman check the board to see which streams they are stocking that week.
