Like another reviewer mentioned, not any staff or activities really. Hope you like reading signs to find out the history and purpose of the buildings, etc. We saw a lot of people there for photos, families, children, etc. There were also quite a few out for a picnic which would be lovely there, very quiet and pretty. We had a... 更多
Large, historically-restored stables with no horses, entrances all roped-off from visitors. A large expensive brick parking lot (empty), groomed 1.6 miles white gravel trail (only a single pair of bicyclists). A home on site for security staff. A few mighty fancy sculptures. Not a soul on site to answer questions. No visitors to speak of. Unclear on the purpose of... 更多
Awesome place to bike ride / run / walk… Trail to get there linked into Prairie Path, Blackwell Forest Preserve & West Branch of the DuPage river trails.
Very nice and relaxing place to take the family outdoors. Once you're on the property you forget you're in the Chicago suburbs. We took the covered wagon tour, which costs $5 per person, to learn more about the history of the property and McCormick family. We will definitely come back again.
This preserve is on the former estate of Brook McCormick and is adjacent to his uncle's estate, Cantigny. The natural areas offer nature-lovers (I'm a birder and nature photographer) a variety of opportunities. However, Mr. McCormick was an equestrian, so a number of building and statues of horses are at the preserve. The preserve is well worth a visit.
The story behind St. James Farm makes it a fascinating visit in a beautiful setting. DuPage Forest Preserves are awesome. This was formerly the summer home of Cyrus McCormack's nephew. They bought the place in 1920! It has been beautifully restored and is so worth a trip. Take advantage of your tax dollars! You can also walk the 1.6 mile... 更多
The trails in St. James are excellent! Those that we have walked are either paved or well covered with wood chips. The trail in front of the main buildings winds through both meadow and open oak forest. Then there are several along which are planted trees of a specific variety (a different tree species for each trail). The ground is... 更多
Wow! We took our grandkids ages 6,5 & 1 & 1/2. We could have spent several more hours there. Everyone was friendly and outgoing, helped the kids with crafts and taught them about wildlife including snakes, (held one!) bees, fishing, camping, etc. This was truly amazing; all the volunteers worked hard at making it truly an experience we will do... 更多
I went to the family fun day at St. James farm with the kids. We saw a sheepdog at work, went for a hayrack ride, saw birds of prey up close and participated in archery. This is a relatively new forest preserve and one that should be on your must do list. What is interesting is that it was a... 更多
Love to go to St James for a trail run or to walk my dogs. Also great for snow shoeing or xc skiing in the winter. The buildings are neat to look at. Lots of photographers use it for prof. photo shoots. I'm looking forward to the new trails opening in May. Hopefully some of the turf trails will be... 更多
