We ventured to Mississippi Palisades State Park as a day trip, from Chicago. It takes only a few hours to get there, and I was excited to see the view from Sentinel trail. The park was pretty and generally well maintained. The campground looked nice, though we did not use it. We hiked some of the north side of the park which had gentler inclines and generally wider trails. Though I would recommend pants or high socks as most areas had tall grasses, even on the trails. This park was my destination for a Sunday afternoon road trip on the Great River Road. It's a nice park with an outer drive with several overlooks with wonderful views of the river. I stopped at Lookout Point, Oak Point, Louis Point, and Ozzie's Point overlooks. The overlooks have boardwalks and viewing decks that show the river at its grandest.... 更多
Easy place to drive in and walk around. The bluffs provide some breathtaking views. Located about 30 minutes outside of Galena, this provides a nice break from the shopping and tourists.
This is a really great spot for hiking and camping (I have only done the former here.) It is only a 2-3 hour drive from Chicago, and the second half of the trip is pretty scenic.
