It was fun to park where Elwood waited for Jack at the beginning of The Blues Brothers. It is worth the short detour off I-80. It would be nice if it was touristy like Alcatraz, but all you can really do is drive by and read a few info signs.
This place is an amazing place to go different places to see each time easy ways to get in park in front and just through the fence. To those who are risk takers the roof is great for a nice sun set ho through the addict to the yard u have to cross the roof and go down latters so... 更多
drive to the back of the prison - there's a road that leads to the back to train tracks guess for shipping prisoners. we stopped took pics and got a few surprise pictures too like most of the other reviews you walk the front area read panels which I was glad to see since there wasn't much else to see... 更多
It's very large and there really isn't a good place to get a photo to show the hugeness of it. It would be great if you could take a tour of the inside. But you are stuck on the outside to read the advertisements about Joliet in the parking lot. There is plenty of parking. I was the only visitor... 更多
When I was 13 or 14 years old, I served as batboy for the Calumet Park Troublemakers semi-pro baseball team that scheduled a game with the Joliet Prison team--inside Joliet Prison. I still recall taking a tour of the prison and getting an up-close-and-personal look at the inmates and the jail cells and the cafeteria. I don't remember who won... 更多
Have visited Joliet Prison/Stateville numerous times, but sometimes the visitation rules change slightly esp. in the dress code. Make sure you get there early because visitor clearance can take a long time. Check ahead on IDOC website re: acceptable clothing items. Above all, be patient!
If you're in Joliet, it's worth the drive by to see the Prison. It really is magnificent and it has a good parking area with good information signs around. Pretty welcoming for a prison!
The prison is located in a convenient spot to pass by and take a look. It's old with a lot of history. It's something that is simple but good to say you've seen it. It would be amazing if they gave tours. The only thing to do is stop and take a few pictures and read the board with the... 更多
You can only see it from outside. But from the main street there is an access to the parking lot where there are several signs/boards with information placed and you can read about this place history. This prison was closed around 2000 and there is nothing going on inside. I wish it is turned it into museum and you can... 更多
It was very interesting. Read the signs around the outside. It must of been hell back in the 1800's to be in it. It is sad though no inside tour's available. This is an other historical place that will go by and by because the mayor really doesn't know what they have there. It is getting broke into and bushes... 更多
