We arrived in Galesburg in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. After getting our hotel room squared away, we headed to the down town area. We approached the Railroad Museum and were amazed by the massive train on display - absolutely amazing! Unfortunately, we came to understand the museum closed at 4pm and we arrived at 3:45pm - shame on... 更多
In the interests of full disclosure, my great grandfather was the station manager in Galesburg many many year ago, so I was predisposed to liking this place. It's family. But as small museums go, it's really well done. From the office set ups inside the building that allow you to see how a busy train depot worked back in the... 更多
The staff and membership of the Galesburg Railroad Museum have done an excellent job in presenting artifacts that will fascinate anyone interested in railroading. You can see the nuts and bolts of railroading--conductors' uniforms, old roundhouse and carman tools, vintage passenger train dining ware, photos of places and people in the old Galesburg CB&Q Yard, a replica of an agent-operator's... 更多
We had wanted to check this out, but on arrival it was sprinkling rain lightly and we were told the train portion of the museum was guided only and that the guide would not guide anyone in the rain. We kept our money and moved on.
My son loves trains and is always exited to go here. There is also a place here called discovery depot. That's for little kids though. But it's still a really fun place!
Happened to stop here on a Monday when it was closed. Did have a good time walking around the train yard and looking at the steam train. Learned some new things. Looked through the windows of the main building and saw some neat exhibits.
Thus railroad museum is small but packed with lots of railroad memorabilia, focusing on the people who made and make the railroad run. The locomotive, Pullman, and caboose are worth seeing as well, and the knowledgable volunteer staff helped make this come alive.
Very nice museum. Didn't get to go on the train cars outside because of rain. Don't blame the employees...it's because of insurance. But the employees and volunteers are the BEST! It's good to see how the railroad was run in the past. Highly recommend making this a stop.
If you love trains and being around the railroad, you will love the railroad museum. It is loaded with facts, information and things from the past. Even the people that live in Galesburg enjoy going to the railroad museum. It's a must see when you come to town. As they say, "All aboard!"
Excellent Railroad Museum with helpful and friendly staff. After touring the museum we went through an old Pullman Car, a Mail Car, Baggage Car and into the Steam Engine and a caboose. It is located next to the Amtrak Station.
