Living History volunteers were informative, interesting and very welcoming for our party who ranged in age from 7 to 60! We learned about Native American culture and about the lives of the settlers who built and defended the fort. Definitely worth a stop!
I have visited many forts in my travels but this was the first fort I've visited in my home state. The staff at the interpretive center were very friendly and informative as were the "living history" volunteers at the fort. We stayed for about an hour and learned about the Black Hawk war, something that I knew nothing about. Definitely... 更多
Interesting account of the Black Hawk War. Very imformative bit of Illinois history. Unfortunately we were there on a weekday and most interactive stuff in on the weekends.
While on the way up to Galena to see Grant's home we went to the fort. I wasn't expecting much but it showed how life was back during the Blackhawk War. There was staff there in period clothing so it was a more authentic setting. The visitor center is nice as it has exhibits on the war and area history.... 更多

One elderly gentleman at the Center was quick to tell us that he was one of the actors. The fort would definitely be... 更多
Great little museum and fort. Fascinating story about how/why the fort was built and the role it played in settling northwest Illinois. The town, Elizabeth, was named after one of the women who defended the fort against attack by Blackhawk and his warriors.
Apple River Fort is a historic site located in charming downtown Elizabeth, IL. There is a store and exhibit space when you enter, with staff members who can give you a great education about the fort, it's history, and why the town is named Elizabeth. Great family experience with the kids, too. Especially fun to then tour the fort which... 更多
While driving through town we stumbled across the Fort. There were people there that were demonstrating activities and answering questions. You could walk around the fort at your leisure. Your time here will be short but well worth it to see the old fort.
