I went on the last weekend of the season and the amount of dirt to shift through was limited. You will find garnets, but nothing that great. I have heard that at the beginning of the season there's a large pile of material. Be ready to work hard. Couples were able to work more efficiently. It's a bit of a... 更多

A really fun place to spend a day! It's close to both Spokane and Coeur d'Alene that you can easily make it there and back in a day. This latest trip we did was a day trip. We spent a few hours there and averaged 4 oz. of garnets each. One in our group even found a 3 oz garnet!... 更多

The Idaho National Forest Service has done an exceptional job of managing the Emerald Creek Garnet Area. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and truly seem to enjoy assisting and educating all those who visit. / Wear old clothes, plan on getting dirty. First you shovel, then sift, and then sluice. It is a delightful "hands on" activity. And, you actually do... 更多

I give this collection area 5 stars! The staff are friendly and helpful and are more then willing to explain how the gems are formed. Great for families with kids aged 7 and up. We have never been skunked in three years and we are returning again this year. We are also fortunate enough to have found many fabulous garnets.... 更多

If you like hunting for gemstones, this is a good place to go. Wear old clothes and plan to get dirty. Bring drinking water and a lunch if you plan to stay for any period of time. The wood frame screens they supply for sifting the gravel can get pretty heavy and be hard on the back. Several people brought... 更多

I love Emerald Creek. The site requires a short hike up an incline. The digging process is a fun family adventure. It is fun to see your finds from the day. I overheard that the garnet soil is from the tailings of a mining company. Not sure if there is truth to that. If so, I'm disappointed. I want to... 更多

It is remote but you will be surprised at the number of people who have found this hidden gem (pardon the pun.) The rangers are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. There is a comradery among the prospectors with the more experienced very helpful to those who are there for the first time. As others have said, it is work, you will get... 更多

We dug here for a few hours on our trip home from Oregon. It is work. You actually have to dig material out of their pile, shift it, and sluice it. More work than some of the other gem sites we have visited. But the Forest Service staff is friendly and helpful, as were the other people working there. They... 更多

It's pretty straight forward to follow the directions to get there. Once there, it is very primitive. Be sure to bring water, sunblock or other appropriate attire for the weather. It's a lot of work but you can casually search or bust yourself out screening and sluicing for the garnets. It fun to find them and to see what others... 更多

What a great way to spend a few hours or day with the family. We took our two teenage sons, ages 14 and 16 and they absolutely loved the adventure and possibility of life as a miner. Bring some plastic dipped gloves, water, hat, sunscreen and a few snacks or lunch. Put forth a little effort and you might walk... 更多
