Stately Oaks is an 1839 antebellum house listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its plain Greek Revival architecture is representative of the era in which it was built. It was originally constructed in 1839 by Mr. Whitmill Allen who sold his home to Robert McCord in 1858 and then moved to Tyler, Texas. It is located in Jonesboro, GA., the very city where Scarlett had to pay the taxes on Tara. Even though Tara only existed in Margaret Mitchell's imagination, she placed Tara in Clayton County where she had visited relatives who lived on a large plantation south of Jonesboro. Many of the stories she heard as a child are in the movie. Clayton County is truly home of Gone With the Wind. Also on site, are a one room schoolhouse, a tenant cabin, cook's house, country store, blacksmith shop and Native American Indian Village.

You'll enjoy this uniquely restored house built in1839 and the tour hosted by ladies in period dress. If you love history, you'll like this house. It also has old school house and an old country store from the same era.

A beautiful house with some absolutely fascinating historical items in it. Our docent was most knowledgeable about the history of the actual house (having family connections to it) and the furnishings and fittings therein. The schoolroom, too, was well maintained an displayed but I feel that much of the rest of the property could be better displayed to tell the... 更多

My wife and I visited at a quiet time and were fortunate enough to be the only two people on the final tour of the day. Our host Ashley in period costume was so pleasant and knowledgeable spent almost an hour with us. We were given the full history of Stately Oaks and at the end felt we knew the... 更多

The volunteers were very welcoming and very knowledgeable. The plantation was as it was before, during and after the war. The volunteers could quote lines from "Gone With the Wind" as well as lines from history. A must see when in Atlanta.

The volunteers are very welcoming, knowledgeable, and patient. The field trip was a second grade glass and their attention span is short. It was great to experience the hunting activity, the food, and to see the lodging. There is also a store to purchase items too. I learned new information about Georgia.

Had wanted to tour an example of a plantation home in Madison, GA but it was Sunday when I was there and nothing was open till later. Fortunately, I was in Jonesboro at the right time on a Monday. Tours begin at 10 AM and tickets can be purchased at "Juddy's Country Store" which is on the grounds of the... 更多

We popped in on the way back to the airport to catch the flight home. Its 30 mins max to the rental car drop off. The guided tour (from a very knowledgable guide in period costume who will show you her period underwear if asked ) lasts about an hour and links the house back in time to the Civil... 更多

The guide was really knowledgeable and explained how the family lived, some details around construction of the home plus interesting facts on the Civil War.
