We crossed the casuseway at 7:30 am. Know where you are going before you get to the island. plan your day according to traffic flow. Yes biking is an alternative way to get around, but in my mind quite dangerous because of the traffic. We left the island at 2:pm and drove by more than 3 miles of backed up... 更多
The bridge over the waters gets you ready for a glimpse of paradise. We love coming here to fish, relax or watch sunsets. The shelling is also a nice surprise too. We have had picnics here and swam in the ocean. A great place to see all the wildlife and sea life near Sanibel.
I love crossing the causeway because it means that I am close to being at my piece of heaven on earth. Yes the traffic can be heavy and backed up, but will probably be so once you get on the island anyway, so relax and enjoy the views. Grab a bike once you get on the island.
What I really want to share with you is biking around Sanibel. There are numerous great trails that you can bike, probably ~22+ miles, and additional bike friendly roads. You can almost circumnavigate the entire island. Go early to avoid traffic and back-ups on the causeway. My wife and I paid our $6 causeway toll and drove to Gulfside Algiers... 更多
On either side of the causeway there is parking so you can get out, enjoy the water, or just hand out and watch the traffic go by. The stopping areas give you a beautiful view of either Sanibel or Ft. Myers Beach. Great place to grab a photo opportunity.
The $6 toll is great investment in order to park at no cost on the long causeway between 2 bridges. Restrooms, barbque stands, parking in the shade of trees and, when the tide is out, shelling in the waters. Fishing is good anytime. Ospreys, pelicans, cormorants, etc. Everyone is relaxed here and many stay to see the sun to down... 更多
Although the shelling is mediocre here, the fishing, atmosphere and amenities are NOT! Parking at other Sanibel beaches is very limited and expensive!!! You park right next to the beach here, tailgating is a breeze. Nice restrooms, plentiful shade for elderly, children, and those who can't take the heat. Gorgeous views!!!
