My daughter (age 5) and I stopped in to visit the lighthouse museum and to climb up to the top of the lighthouse. We started with the lighthouse climb which was nice. It felt air conditioned on the inside which is nice seeing that it is Florida. It was been redone and kept up nicely. There are windows you can... 更多
Lighthouse overlooks Saint George beach and is a must see. The grounds, outbuildings, and the lighthouse were all in great condition and very picturesque. I got there too early so I did not get a chance to go inside or climb to the top. Next trip!
St. George Island is a great beach community on a narrow strip of island just off the main shore and the Appalachicola area of Florida. Right in the middle of the island after you enter the area from the long bridge, you can see this iconic and unexpected light house. A welcome sight, whether on land or out in the... 更多
It was a clear, sunny day when we climbed to the top and got a great view of the surrounding area. Like many lighthouses it has a circular stairway (92-steps) from the base to the watch room and then a short (8-rung) ladder from the watch room to the lantern room.
The lighthouse is a nice place to stop and learn about the history of the rebuilt lighthouse. The museum is very well done and free to visit. A nominal fee allows you to climb to the top. The views are awesome.
This is a nice lighthouse, in a very great location, St. George Island. The island is a very dog friendly place. Beaches are very nice. I met several people who were on a "Light House tour". Quite a few light houses in this area, apparently. You can walk to the top of the lighthouse, which is about 96 steps. Then... 更多
There is a great story behind this lighthouse. That is, it wasreclaimed by the ocean and fell over. It was reclaimed again by people wishing to rescue the parts . They reconstructed it on its current spot! There is a 10 foot ladder at the top and the passage is narrow. But oh the view!
We made a quick stop at the lighthouse on the way out to the State Park. Very nice small park area surrounding the lighthouse with a beautiful boardwalk & shelter leading out to the beach. Several businesses and restaurant nearby and nice benches to lingerer or rest. Public restrooms were clean and nice.
