The historic jail is interesting and the tour is well done and informative. The staff wear costumes from the period when teh jail was most active and are full of fun facts as well as useful information.
This place was a lot of fun to visit with my boyfriend. I'm a history buff so it was cool to go into the old cells and step foot in the same places they did in the past.
Bucky was our "trustee" that "booked all incoming prisoners" (aka....our tour guide). Bucky very much looks the part, scruffy beard, prison scrubs, "attitude". The tour is short, but very informative and has newspaper articles, weapons that were used in actual crimes from that time - all on display. After the tour you can read and view the weapons at your... 更多
Many of you will think that visiting a Jail for history or educational purposes is inappropriate, but let me tell you something, many others study history to learn about cultures, believes, mentalities of others that came before us. St Augustine is the oldest city in the nation, also as part of that history there was this jail, it is definitely... 更多
The guide was good. Was surprised at how the prisoners were treated! Other than cells not much to see. Important to read the information on the walls. U learn from the posters.
Beatrice, the tour guide/jailer was very interesting and knowledgable. It was interesting to see the old jail cells, the hanging gallow, and artifacts.
Our graddaughter was visiting so we took her to St. Augustine and did the Ghost tour. It was a fun experience and the guide at the jail made it very interesting. He told about the conditions the prisoners delt with and how they had to live. It was a fun stop.
We were on nighttime trolley ride!, was with husband, we were just the 2 of us & we wanted to do this after visiting city a couple of years ago, was not as scary as I would have imagined.
We did not visit the jail during the day (but surely will one of these days). We went in during a night time ghost tour. It was SUPER creepy!!! The stories were interesting and I would put this on the must-see list.
An educational look at jail life in the late 1800's-mid 1900's. Tour guide "inmates" were entertaining as they shared stories about serving time in this penitentiary. We expected the tour to be slightly longer for the price, as the tour is easily finished in 30 minutes. Still a very interesting tour to gain knowledge of the history of St. Augustine.
