The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden is the only...

The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden is the only "frost-free" botanical garden in the continental United States. A tropical environment with ample rain allows most trees to retain their leaves in the dry season (December through late May). It is home to many endangered and threatened flora and fauna. Unlike traditional botanical gardens, this garden advocates as a teaching tool native plants and species in a natural conservation habitat. Tropical forests of the world hold at least half of all the variety of life on Earth. Moreover, the species found with the Caribbean are among the richest in plant and animal life on the planet. The Key West Forest & Garden is a special place where you can appreciate biodiversity and learn more about its importance. For instance, the forest has two of the last remaining fresh water ponds in the Keys and is a major migratory stopping point for neo-tropical birds from places as far as South America, as well as being home to many rare birds in the Florida Keys.Enjoy this "one of a kind" U S tropical forest and garden filled with butterflies, birds, plants and beautiful flowers. Your visit begins with a smiling volunteer greeter at our education center. See a short film and browse the photo walls. Pick up a Garden Guide that describes the 8 self-guided information tours, 2 wetland habitats and 2 butterfly gardens. The lush courtyard has a waterfall wall of tropical plants and below turtles happily show off their home. Meander through a one acre butterfly habitat with over 23 species discovered! Stroll through a lush canopy of tropical palms and trees. Discover the hidden pond and maybe get lucky enough to see a rare resident white crowned pigeon or bald eagle! Restrooms and refreshments are available.

Trails lead through the various parts of the garden showing high canopy tree areas, ponds and the butterfly gardens where specific plants attract butterflies. Impressive collection of cuban palm trees. We spent three hours there, observing birds and all the plants. Very friendly staff introduced us to the layout and explained what is to be seen where. It is not... 更多

It was handicapp accessible which was nice. It was just basically a nice walk in the woods. There were a few sculptures but it really needed some interest when walking around, more flowering plants or a few more sculptures and animals. It was a walk for about an hour.

Gorgeous hammock of overhanging palnta and home to many species of birds, butterflies and other indigenous animals. Don't go in flip flops, the path is often Rocky. Great unexpected hiking in the heart of key west.

I volunteered here with my teenagers this morning. We helped Pat trim the dead leaves off their palms. Along the way, Pat graciously shared her vast knowledge of the abundant native (and a few non-native, but super cool) plants on the property. It was a very informative work hour. I would highly encourage contacting them ahead of time to schedule... 更多

It's a nice area with natural growth of tees, palms, etc with boardwalks and trails. There are some specialized areas, like the pond with tons of turtles and some trails with cacti and other interesting plants. Local artists have their works displayed throughout. Everything is labeled, both plants and art work. It's not a cultivated museum like environment, but its... 更多

Their website says this "...garden filled with butterflies, birds, plants and beautiful flowers". There were plants and trees which we have never seen before. There were 3 or 4 butterflies. There were very few birds...just those that are regularly seen around Key West. There were almost no flowers. I love botanical gardens, therefore; I hate to ever talk negatively about... 更多

Peaceful beautiful spot to see flowers and plants, hear birds singing, see butterflies flying and watch turtles swimming.

It was raining my first day in Key West. I chose this Botanical Garden for a morning activity. The drizzle didn't matter much as most of this is a boardwalk under a canopy of tropical trees. I didn't expect much, but I was surprised to see so many cool plants. I learned what a Buccaneer Palm was. Most plants had... 更多

Very little to offer even the most seasoned horticulturists.$8 admission but in hindsight, we could have walked the grounds without paying a dime. Walked it in 45 minutes. Just nothing there at all! Skip it!
