The Benwood has been down there a while and it is pretty much a hulk but the wildlife abound... I have never seen so many fish. The depth is 35-40' so it is no problem diving and the visibility is good but no great... there are quite a few dive boats with groups so you must stay close to your... 更多
It's funny, if you speak to guys about the Benwood wreck, their eyes light up. For us it was no big deal, kind of boring actually. Nothing compared to the dive sites along the Molasses Reef in terms of fish life and coral.
The ship is pretty much destroyed but you can still see some. The corals and fish are very very nice and abundant and the best for me was that is a shallow dive around 45-48 feet. The water was pretty cold thou.
The Benwood wreck is mostly destroyed; you'll see the bones of the hull more than anything. But the coral and fish here are abundant. It's perfect for those looking for an easy, interesting shallow dive, as I think it maxes out at 45 feet. Go with a dive company like Rainbow Reef Dive Center in Key Largo and let the... 更多
This is a good dive site, and relatively shallow. The Benwood was struck, running lights-out during WWII, by another boat. It was backed up into shallow water, where it rested on the reef. The Navy later used the boat for target practice, breaking it up into the pretty large pieces that still exist. Great place for good fish and soft-coral... 更多
This dive site had plenty of fish. I give it a 4 out of 5 because the wreck is pretty beat up (hence the title of the review). There isn't much left of the wreck other than frame members, but the fish love it! It is a shallow dive so it's great for beginners. I don't think we went any... 更多
The Benwood is a real wreck in more than one sense. The result of a nighttime collision between two freighters in WWII the superstructure was subsequently cut off (as it was considered a navigation hazard) and the remains of the ship were then used for bombing practice. (As an aside, both real and fake bombs were used with some of... 更多
We were lucky to have great visibility and calm water. There were large schools of fish and a lot of variety. We saw a big Goliath grouper that was super cool. A really fun dive.
