The Refuge protects a remnant of the once vast northern Everglades. At the Visitor Center you can take a virtual airboat ride, listen to night sounds of the Everglades and explore a gator hole - all without getting wet! Behind the Visitor Center you can explore the Cypress Swamp Boardwalk, a 0.4-mile trail that loops through towering cypress trees, pond apple trees, ferns and other flora of the swamp. Then relax in the nearby Butterfly Garden, or head across the road to the Marsh Trail. The 0.8-mile Marsh Trail is one of several walking trails along the grass levees that encircle impoundment areas, where different water levels provide habitat for various types of wading birds and other wildlife. Bring your camera and binoculars! You might see an endangered Wood Stork or Snail Kite, or any of 270 other species of birds. While walking the trails, look for tracks in the soft sand. Common tracks include those of bobcats, otters, alligators, raccoons, armadillos and birds.See the Everglades up close and personal in a canoe or kayak on the 5.5-mile Canoe Trail! Or enjoy the view from the levee as you ride along the 12-mile Bike Trail alongside the main canal. Canoes, kayaks and bicycles are available for rent. Try your luck fishing from the pier for largemouth bass, bluegill and bullhead catfish. Boating and sport fishing are also allowed in the main canal. State regulations for fishing licenses apply. Airboats are not allowed on the Refuge, but Loxahatchee Everglades Tours operates just south of the Refuge. Guided bird and nature walks and canoe trips take place on a regular basis. Ranger-led school tours are available by appointment.

Swampland boardwalk though the Cyprus and fern forest is a real highlight. Walking the levees and watching the ruddy ducks, egrets of 3 kinds, alligators and turtles, Hawks and vultures, ahingas, sparrows and canaries - it's all there in this major Evergaldes restoration project.

Three of us took the 5-mile circular canoe trail in the wildlife refuge. You can fit two in a kayak or three in a canoe, and you can request a chairback rather than have to sit up straight--that worked for us! The canoe trail is just beautiful--peaceful paddling through water lilies and grasses seeing herons, egrets, alligators, and other wildlife.... 更多

A day away from the beach! We enjoyed the Cypress Swamp boardwalk and Marsh trails. A very nice walkway above the Cypress Swamp was well done, inside the visitor center excellent displays.

Really enjoyed taking boat around much of the 52 mile canal surrounding the wildlife refuge. Staff helpful and friendly. I purchased the annual pass for $12.00 but a $5.00 daily pass is also available. We saw dozens of alligators and other wildlife. Kayak rentals available. Nice boat ramps.

Situated about 15 minutes from the shore, this is a really excellent state park. Interesting visitors centre with a board walk from the rear and we had good views of woodpeckers here but not much else. Then drove the short distance to the main area and spent the afternoon just wandering on broad grass paths arround large sunken water meadows... 更多

This place has a 5.5 miles trail for kayaking where you kayak among alligators, turtles and beautiful birds and butterflies. You can bring your own kayak or rent. You go on your own risk and there is no guided tours. Only you and the nature. The trail takes 3-4 hours and you meet noone. It is a nature paradise. A... 更多

Delightful. Be sure to see the alligators. Try to reserve the tram in advance for a wonderful free tour

Speaking as a bird photographer, Lox could do much more to attract birds. A recent visit revealed that much of the open water is now covered with aquatic vegetation. I saw a flock of Blue-winged Teal circle the area several times looking for a landing spot. Wading birds will collect there if the water height is not too deep, but... 更多

Many locals and visitors say they didn't know the Everglades were in suburban Boynton Beach. They are!...right in Palm Beach County’s backyard- on 441 between Boynton Beach Blvd and Atlantic Ave, right behind Bedner’s Farmer’s Market on Lee Rd. NEWS FLASH: They just opened new hiking and biking trails; there’s a map on the Friends of Loxahatchee website. AND if... 更多

The boardwalk in the swamp was amazing. I took some cool shots of the trees. I have never been so close to a gator before in my life prior to visiting here.
