Built in 1639 for the Reverend Henry Whitfield, one of the founders of Guilford, the house was considered an "ancient relic" even over 175 years ago. It opened as a museum in 1904. Self-guided tours include three floors of antique furnishings and local artifacts, the introductory exhibit "The Old Stone House," as well as changing exhibits in the Visitor Center and displays in the Education Building. No admission is required for visiting the gift shop or using the research library. The museum hosts special events throughout the year, culminating in the annual Firelight Festival the second Friday after Thanksgiving.

We very much enjoyed our trip to the museum. As one interested in the field of architecture preservation this was fascinating because this home has been manipulated so much through time. Unlike a normal house museum, this is not a house museum because the building has been altered so much. For those interested in preservation this is definitely a must... 更多

My husband and I were on a business trip to CT. We decided to spend the preceding weekend in a B&B in Westbrook and explore the area. Our hostess had grown up in Guilford and suggested a Sunday drive. We were checking our route on the smart phone when Henry Whitfield's Old Stone House came up. We enjoy local curiosities... 更多

Not many things the state of Ct. runs that is done correctly, maybe this is a rarity. Very we'll run. Nice little gift shop and the house can be guided tour or self walk. Spend as little or as much time as possible. We were a liitle short on time so we'll try to go back.

Amazing old house, the oldest around. Small and quickly viewed, so plan something else if you are making the trip. Not too exciting for children.

My girlfriend took me out for the day for my birthday. The museum was very interesting with nice grounds. If you are into history you will like this lovely home.

I've lived a block from here most of my life, my first apt. Was right across the street. Even living this close I have visited the house over and over again, if u want an experience knowing what it was like in the 1600's and learn a history of this town, this is the place to visit. The price is... 更多

A beautiful house restored to bring to life what New England was like. Great pieces of furniture and tools.

I visited this little museum in the rain during Winter time. It was so lovely and the guide spent so much time talking to me about the stone house's history and about Guilford's history generally. I am Australian and found Guilford on the internet as I really wanted to visit an old New England small town (whilst staying in nearby... 更多

You can tour the home, which used to be a fort, and see a few small exhibits. I was the only guest there and the guides almost provided too much info. But it was worth a short stop.
