A majestic fall that can't be missed if you travel here. The high granite walls and deep pool below are the jewel of the entire gorge, though a hike through the gorge doesn't lack in primal beauty that made me feel I was in another time. A great, isolated spot for nature lovers.
Just south out of Ouray alongside US 550 (The Million Dollar Highway: originally a toll road built by mining entrepreneur Otto Mears for what was considered an outrageous sum in the day. I will agree with another post, this is great as a passenger. I was driving so I wasn't able to look as much as I would have liked to. There are a few spots to stop and I recommend that. There are plenty of things to look at on the way.
Uncompahgre Gorge is a short hike from the Victorian Inn and well worth the effort. The sounds of cascading water surrounded by mountains in all directions couldn't have provided a more spectacular moment during my visit.
Beautifil and scenic!! We took our Jeep from Colorado West Jeeps and spent 5 days backpacking in the Uncompahgre Wilderness with a summit of Uncompahgre Peak!! GREAT place!!!!
we witnessed it driving from Silverton to Ouray and back. Beautiful views and quite a few places you can go off-road if you have the right vehicle. They make it sound like the million dollar highway is as treacherous as driving through Mexico without headlights in a Mercedes. I would disagree. Just drive for the conditions and take your time.... 更多
