We hiked this in the morning. The path was not too challenging. No major elevation changes or climbs. Take plenty of water as there is nothing available once you enter the trailhead. Amazing and beautiful, a shot drive from Grand junction it is Well worth the time to go for a drive and see some wildlife. Last time I was there we saw several groups of Quail and Chuckers as well as a Wild Turkey.
Gorgeous hike with massive canyon walls, petroglyphs that are just fascinating. Water falls, pot holes. It can get very hot in the canyon, also you have to hike 2-3 miles along railroad tracks just to get to the trail head.
This is wilderness area, so don't expect any amenities. It is a great, fairly easy "hike" with some wonderful natural, red stone beauty.
