Ruth Bancroft Garden is in Walnut Creek near Treat and Ignacio Valley Road. It's one of those rare huge corner lots that started as somebody's orchard or farm many, many years ago and is still undeveloped and owned by the family. Mrs. Bancroft lives in an old mansion on the grounds. The house is private, but is fun to look... 更多
This small succulent garden, located in Walnut Creek is very nicely maintained and the people (volunteers?) are friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my walk and also sat in the shade and enjoyed the serenity of the day. About an hour to walk the trail with time to stop and take photos or sit for a while in the shade.... 更多
Although this garden is in an urban area, plant lovers will not be disappointed with the many trees, palm-like plants and cactuses. The tour map shows over 20 plant exhibits. The variety of succulents were great but the map was too confusing to follow. It would have been better to have each exhibit labelled. The only label I saw was... 更多
I love this garden because it is filled with interesting plants that grow well in California without taking too much water. You get to see full size plants and trees so you know how big the plants in small containers will grow into. They have done extensive work on the garden since the last time I visited. It is clean... 更多
We just happened to visit on the day they were having an art display. It was nice seeing all the different kinds of art as well as all the plants. People here were very friendly.
I highly recommend the docent-led tour for the complete history and descriptions of this unusual garden. Bring a camera and visit it at different times of the year!
We went to the Bancroft Garden because my aunt had told us about the vast array of succulents and cactus. Although my aunt was using a walker, and the paths were not paved, she did not have any problem walking the grounds. It was nice that there were many attractive areas to sit and just view the plants, as well... 更多
Most of this cactus garden is behind a fence so you don't realize it's as wonderful as it is until you actually enter. Ruth, now about 100 years old, created this treasure out of her love for the type of plants. Lucky for the rest of us that she agreed to open the garden to the public. Bancroft Gardens is... 更多
I have visited the Ruth Bancroft Garden, on several occasions. I love to see the the variety of hardy, sculptural big succulents as well as smaller specimens that are on display. For those of us in a dry state like California this is a great resource for those wanting something more water thrifty than a lawn. There is also a... 更多
An enjoyable botanic garden to visit. Large variety of succulents of all sizes, colors, and species, plus numerous other types of plants. Staff seems very committed to improving and expanding it. Downside is that most plants have no labels, and those that do have labels low to the ground and generally not visible. I was told they are planning eventually... 更多
