Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site of CanadaHistory will unfold before...

Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site of CanadaHistory will unfold before your eyes at this restored 19th century fort where costumed staff recreate the 1850s in the Red River Valley. Come and meet the Governor of the Hudson’s Bay Company as he strolls through his garden, barter with the company clerk, sit in a tipi and listen to the whispers of ancient legends, and touch the coarse fur of a bison hide at the oldest stone fur trading post in North America – or, if you prefer, scour the fort for clues in a family scavenger hunt. There is something here for the whole family.Living-history programs run mid-May – Labour Day, 9:00 – 5:00 daily. Daily guided tours in English and French and motorized access for mobility challenged visitors available. Regularly scheduled tours are offered in September. Don’t forget to ask us about our Halloween and Christmas programs. The site is open to groups year-round for tours, weddings or meetings by pre-booking.

Went on a hot and sunny Manitoba summer day. Love the fort - it's always a pleasure to visit! Our future daughter-in-law, a history student, absolutely loved it. Couldn't see everything, sadly, due to some extensive renovation/restoration work. But what we did see was excellent, as always. Blacksmith shop, farm, campsite - it's all great. Stayed for a picnic lunch... 更多

We visit the Fort quite regularly with visitors and our grandkids and are always happy with the experience. The summer months are especially great because there are host characters in costume to interact with. You might get a chance to sample bannock fresh from the oven or potatoes fresh from the pan as we did in August of this year.... 更多

We had been there years ago and found this historical site interesting, hence, we took company from New York State there in June, 2016. It was a little disappointing, compared to previous years. We were not allowed in the main house, there was construction here & there and there is no longer a film to give the history of Winnipeg,... 更多

Live in the area but we are always so busy road tripping elsewhere that we finally made a family trip to Lower Fort Garry. The kids had an absolute blast dressing up as Mounties and learning from all the dressed up workers. We learnt how people baked, lived, shopped, worked back then and it honestly felt like we had stepped... 更多

Lower Fort Garry is a great place for locals or visitors to experience a bit of Canadian History. There are people in character at the fort who explain the history of it as you walk around which is great. It is definitely a place to visit if you have never been. I recommend it to anyone visiting the Winnipeg area... 更多

Its a trading fort not a military fort. It was a fascinating tour. The guides are dressed and act as if its 200 years ago and make the experience of visiting so much more. I enjoyed it all - except I did not like all the animal pelts in the second floor of the storage building. Whilst I accept the... 更多

As a Winnipeger, having been here a number of times, I'm amazed that I continue to learn about why Winnipeg is the way it is going back to ancestral cultures and colonial influences. If you're a history buff, you're going to love this place. If you're a child, you're going to be amazed by its different feel and the staff... 更多

What an opportunity to see how people lived in the late 1800's. How Canada created the RCMP. This weekend saw bear Clan dancing, black musket demo, RCMP musical ride, hoop dancing and various historic buildings. Every event went on time. The actors were very knowledgeable for the time period and were dressed in time. Lots of events for the kids.... 更多

It is fun when people come to visit from out of town. You tend to make an effort to find things to do that you may not do on your own. Lower Fort Garry is a very well maintained historic site. Situated on the Ref River. Each building has curators playing a role of the people who used to live... 更多

I really enjoyed the staff who in their historical outfits and assigned characters brought the experience of what life would have been like in the Fort to life. The staffwere very well informed and knowledgeable about their character, answering almost all questions visitors posed. I also really appreciated how the fort has maintained the integrity of a historic site so... 更多
