Whether visiting Edinbaugh or Glasgow in Scotland, the Falkirk Wheel is worth seeing. The Scottish decided to revive the Union Canal, and replace 11 abondoned locks with a single rotating boat lift that carries barges up and down 75 meters (80 feet) in 4 minutes, a task that the locks could only do in an entire day. Graceful in movement,... 更多
After living in Saratoga for over 13 years, I finally went to visit Hakone Gardens this year. And I am sorry to say that the visit was a major disappointment. The gardens are in need to have good upkeep for the landscape and the ponds.
Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, CA is my favorite place to go to in the South Bay. I've been there over 50 times in the last 10 years, and I still am amaze of its tranquility and beauty. It's a well maintained Japanese garden with Koi fish, bamboo forest, tea house, short hiking trails, water falls and many places to sit... 更多
Imagine yourself a lady in waiting to the Japanese Empress during the 11th century strolling through a garden much like Hakone. You notice approvingly that the garden has been laid out according to the principals recently written by your friend in the first book on the art of Japanese gardening, the Sakuteiki. You have so much on your mind- the... 更多
This is a beautifully designed garden that makes you forget you're in California. Not that I've ever been to Japan, but I definitely didn't feel like I was in California anymore. We were there just to visit the gardens, but they also have tea ceremonies and assorted classes throughout the year. Even if it's a hot day (which it was... 更多
I've spent a good deal of time in the Huntington's Japanese garden (San Marino, CA), but I think I like Hakone better. Its designer used the topography really well, creating discrete areas you can explore via meandering trails. Secluded benches are everywhere; you have plenty of opportunities to rest and absorb the peaceful surroundings. Though we visited on a very... 更多

The Hakone Gardens is celebrating their 100th anniversary this year, 2016-17. We were here for a large weekend celebration of the event and it was wonderful. The gardens are on an 18 acre lot and were created by Isabel Stine after she was inspired by the Japan Pavilion at the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exhibition in San Francisco (of which,... 更多
Nice garden and pond to see and take nice photos. Half the place is up the hill, like the (Shogetsuan) - Tea Ceremony. There are lots of benches to sit and relax and enjoy the garden. There is not to much for wheelchairs to go. There is a fee to enter.
