Great area to explore and it connects to walking paths. Fun to visit the stores and eat at the many restaurants. Parking can be a problem and parking meters can be a problem - time wise
As others have pointed out there are many options for food, shopping and a very good coffee shop. However I did expect more memorabilia and definitely expected a train or two. This is a nice area to find a restaurant but I would not go out of my way to visit Railroad Square.
Not much of a tourist area, mostly restaurants. A map at the Visitor Center highlights many of the buildings that have historical significance, but you'll need a car to drive the route. We gave up and went to the Charles Schultz Museum.
In a terrible planning job Santa Rosa was split in 2 by a mall. Railroad square is the old part of town and it has some great buildings, great neighborhoods and a chance to see what remains of this lovely town. Spent the day walking around with friends and our teenage daughters. Lots of shops of varying styles. Enjoyed the retro shops as well as the antiques and garden shops. Wonderful food options. We enjoyed the omelets!
This area leaves much to be desired as there are few shops and lots of homeless in the area. We do have to give a shout out to Cellars of Sonoma, they are located in this area and are AMAZING! Great wine and staff.
I have been to the Railroad Square Historic area a couple of times. I've enjoyed looking and shopping in the small shops/stores in the area.
