My title about the hike is meant to indicate the effort for the occasional hiker. I am 62 years old and in good shape. There are spots on the well-maintained trail that are quite rocky and steep, requiring a moderate amount of scrambling. The views are nice, and meeting fellow hikers also fun. As you leave the parking lot, the... 更多
I read many reviews of Iron Mountain before our hike. Seemed like a lot of the reviews I read said this hike was "easy, not bad" etc. Our group found it to be a bit of a challenge (myself and my husband late 40's and our two 20 something kids - all in decent shape). Do-able, but definitely wouldn't say... 更多
Take plenty of water and expect to spend all morning on the trail. It is worth the effort when you get to the top and have views over almost all of San Diego from the Mexico Border to the Catalina islands (on a clear day). Avoid this when it is hot (anything above 85) as you will be most unhappy.... 更多
Our family has climbed this MANY times, from carrying children in hiking packs to them doing it on their own around age 5-7. Kids love to hike a little starting young, but the distance is a little far to expect them to do all on their own until they're around this age. There are several sets of stairs, so you... 更多
We wanted a hike that was scenic and not too hard or easy, and Iron Mountain delivered. The trail was very clearly marked and there were only a few people on it.
Definitely not for beginners, the hike took us 4 hours (2hrs up and 2hrs down), pack plenty of water, wear good hiking shoes. Stunning views well worth the climb if you are physically able.
After flying to San Diego on a long flight from Michigan, I wanted to get some exercise and see some of the natural sites in the area. Iron Mountain is a really nice moderate hike. The trail is well maintained and takes about 60-90 minutes to reach the peak. Lots of nice rock formations, plants and views along the way.... 更多
The parking area and trail are well kept and you have to look hard to find a bit of litter. Hike is moderate difficulty - especially closer to the summit - but can be reached by children and families. From the top, an expansive view gives sights from San Diego to Catalina and the major cities all along the coast
Moderate uphill hike. View from top is magnificent, all the way to the Pacific Ocean. For a really spectacular site hike up to witness sunrise. Dress in layers in early morning. It can be breezy. Plenty of free parking at start of trail.
This is a great hiking spot that is easy to find. There are restrooms at the base of the trail. The hike is quiet, scenic & there are plenty of signs directing you at each intersection; complete with distance. There is no natural water source along the trail. Take at the very least, one liter of water per hiker. I... 更多
